Hardenberger has been described as ‘the best trumpet player in the galaxy’ The Times) and a ‘colossus of the trumpet [with a] fabulously velvet tone’(The Guardian).

The RTÉ NSO/Hardenberger collaboration will look to the past in style and showcase a modern marvel. Haydn’s lyrical and exuberant Concerto for Trumpet is always an audience favourite; Prokofiev’s ‘Classical’ symphony is an exhilarating homage to Haydn and Mozart; and Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin is an elegant and elegiac borrowing of Classical dance rhythms paying tribute to friends killed in battle. As befits an artist who, alongside his phenomenal performances of the classical repertory, is also held in high regard as a pioneer of significant and virtuosic new trumpet works, it will showcase a modern marvel, Robert Planel’s exhilaratingly tuneful and atmospheric concerto.
